I am retiring and losing my iphone. my current apple ID is my work email which I will no longer have access to. I have purchased a new phone like my work one. How do I change my apple ID and transfer my data?

Yes I cam change my apple ID on my old work phone. So if I am reading this right, I should change my apple ID on my work phone, create a backup with new ID, then transfer all info from work phone to new personal phone using my new apple ID. Is this correct? Thanks.
