Wrong Country Caller ID

I live in Saskatchewan Canada - area code 306. I just upgraded to the new iPhone SE. I have the latest available IOS. Calls to my phone (which are not in my contacts) show the phone number (indicating it is long distance with the +1) as originating from the United States. The call is not long distance and it originated from the same town. My old phone would show where call was actually from - frustrating. Help.

even if that was so (would mean carrier changed way in last couple of days) I actually know the people who have called - it was both from a landline and a cell - they live down the street from me - no where near United States. Thankyou for your responses- I appreciate you trying to help

Canada uses country code 1.

Along with the United States, and twenty-some other countries and territories.

You are seeing the full telephone number for a Canadian telephone number.

Click the following blue text for the list of countries and territories that all share country code 1:

Your carrier is the source of the caller ID information; of the 11-digit number and whatever additional location-related information might be provided to your iPhone along with the Caller ID. Your carrier provides that information to your iPhone. Put differently, if the local folks are showing up with the correct telephone number and the wrong location, check with your cellular carrier.

+1 does not indicate long distance, it’s the Caller ID is provided by your carrier.

You’re now getting an 11 digit caller ID.

All of mine have been arriving that way for a while now.

Even the spammers spoofing the same telephone exchange present as 11 digits.

Reset your network settings, and failing that then check with your carrier.

But pragmatically, you’re getting an 11 digit caller ID as that’s how your carrier has chosen to present the ID.

Not really sure why you are stuck on the +1 - don't really care about that sorry if I mislead you. The problem is that when I receive a call from someone not in my contacts. The caller ID shows their correct number and the location as United States - they are calling from local numbers - their location should be the same as mine. It has happened both when a cell or landline is used to call me. I hope I have made this a little clearer. I apologize for not being clear - I greatly appreciate the time people take to make suggestions - Thankyou1

Sorry for my snarky response. There may be a problem with your carrier; I’ve seen other reports of NPA 306 being incorrectly reported as United States. But that information comes from the caller’s network operator; the phone just displays what it has been “told”. If you go to your carrier’s website and log in, or if you look at your bill, what does it show as the origin of the calls?

Also, is it possible that the caller is using Wi-Fi calling or VPN that terminates in the US?

Ok - thanks it makes sense. I did contact them before posting here and they told me it was a problem with my phone and software - would not be the first time they got it wrong. At least you have given me some arguments I can give them. Before I call back: Do you think it might have something to do with switching Sim card. I just swapped card from old phone to new phone, didn't inform carrier. Everything seemed to go smoothly and this is the only glitch I've noticed. Thankyou for your insight

Did you ever get this figured out? Mine has randomly started doing this as well—if the number is not in my contacts it shows all (306) numbers as “United States”. I didn’t upgrade, update, or any thing different. And it Shows “United States” regardless of whether or not the +1 shows up in front of the caller ID number.

Hi Darrel, My wife and I are both experiencing the same issue... we're with Bell but live in SK. When I spoke to Bell I was also told it's an Apple issue and it should be corrected in the next update.... yeah, right. No change and its been a couple updates. I think the problem lies with the carrier(s). I wonder if anyone who is with Sasktel is experiencing this issue.... I'll be following this thread and if I hear of a solution that works I'll share it here too. Cheers!

I agree... I think it may be the repeating towers and how they read the incoming signals. Some code was probably changed early this year with SaskTel's infrastructure changes. Perhaps it's a combo of Apple and the carrier/SaskTel issues. That said, I know nothing of how it all really works but it certainly is frustrating.
