IPhoneSE 2020 wifi painfully slow??

Is anyone else having wifi problems w the new iPhone SE?

It runs in all cases about 75% slower than miy old iPhone 6s. I am on a 1GB fiber internet connection, with Apple Airports throughout.

I generally use the 5GHz spectrum.

A full phone reset, and using only factory settings, makes no difference. At all ...

iPhone SE

I have similar inconveniences.

I have identified two problems, all values given - D/U [Mb/s]:

1) iPhone SE 2020 has noticeably worse wifi range than my previous iPhone 6s. In the place where 6s connects to my 5GHz network and still reaches 20/4, SE does not detect the network at all. The range on the 2.4GHz band is also worse and shows about one beam less. Sometimes, even close to the access point, a message is displayed saying that the network cannot be connected. This does not happen on any other device (4 iPhones, 2 iPads).

2) iPhone SE 2020 has a problem with the simultaneous use of the 2.4GHz band over wifi and bluetooth. When I turn off bluetooth, the bandwidth increases significantly. For example, near access point it increases from 29/44 to 98/82, far from access point it increases from 8/13 to 23/37.

I have already started regretting this purchase.

My setup is: Mikrotik hEX, UniFi AP-AC-LR

I was experiencing this same issue and in a few cases, nothing loading on Wifi at all. After I factory reset my iPhone SE 2020 I can get a max out my home internet connection in speedtests. As soon as I restore a backup to my phone, Wifi slows to a crawl and I only get 6-7Mbps. Seems like Apple has some issue with data restored during backups.

Keep in mind, this is with all "Network and Profile Settings" having already been cleared from the beginning.

Maybe this will also help Apple, but I upgraded from an iPhone 6 16Gb to an iPhone SE 2020 128Gb.

This data was measured today at Apple Los Gatos, CA store connected to store Wi-Fi.  First set of data, 2:47 PM, taken standing in the queue outside the store.  Second set of data, 3:27 PM, taken in store while working with Genius Bar rep.  In each pair, I first did a speed measurement with Bluetooth turned on.  Then turned off Bluetooth and repeated the measurement.  Consistent result was that Bluetooth turned on caused a significant hit to speed both up and down.

Genius Bar rep said they had no information of others reporting this problem. I would encourage others to keep reporting this to Apple.

Hello,

I also had a problem with low wifi speed.

this change helped me.

after changing the security in the router settings from WPA to WPA2, my wi-fi speed increased from 10 Mbps to about 400 Mbps :)

if you are getting the TPIK not secure, then look at the options available on your router menu, it is settings or utilities, and change it to WPA2 AES instead of the TPIK, and then that will remove the weak security warning you are getting..

Every router is different so I am not sure exactly where that option is on every different router, but carefully look over every option on any menu options and make that change and it should solve problem

Update - I spent several hours of my weekend dealing with support on this. The last part was over an hour with a rep, who commandeered my phone to see what he could find in the settings -- and as he was noodling around, the phone dropped the connection! I was never so happy to see the Wi-Fi disappear as I was right then. The problem happened while he was monitoring my phone - how awesome is that!

Then, I backed up the whole thing, and we factory-reset, just like you said would happen, Shawn, then we restarted, and did not do anything to set up the phone.

We logged into my wifi network and he directed me to a speed test website. I couldn't even load it - spinning circle and then ... it dropped the connection again.

At that point we were both happy. He was assured that it wasn't any software on the phone, and I was just thrilled that I could "prove" it.

(I also had a video of my SE running next to my old phone, with the SE not getting wifi, dropping connection, etc, while the 6s had an excellent connection the whole time, but he wasn't able to view it. I still have it as proof, tho!)

Anyway, got my return ship label today and will get a new phone.

Fingers crossed....

Update: After my adventure with tech support and being able to confirm in real time that the WiFi was awful and just dropped for no reason, I sent back the phone.

And this week I got a box back and... I have a new phone...I think?

How does one tell it's new?

I took a screen shot of my "about this iPhone" screen in settings before I sent the phone to Apple.

Regular model number for 128gig red SE is MXCY2LL/A and that's what my screen shot had on the bad phone.

My phone's model number is now NXCV2LL/A ... there is nothing, nada, zip online with this model number. The model number is like no other model number on earth. I'm so confused.

What the heck???

The "repair" sheet they sent back says it has a new serial number. And it says they "replaced the following parts:"

red 128GB iphone SE 2nd gen, NA

red, enclosure, iphone SE 2nd gen

battery, iphone Se 2nd gen

...with random symptoms next to each item, not one of which is WiFi.

At first I was thinking they did a repair, but then I read more closely and it looks like they replaced the phone. But why couldn't they just say that, rather than "enclosure" and "battery" etc.

At any rate, the WiFi is now excellent and does not drop the connection at all.

Fingers crossed!

Great news for me and hopefully all in this community. Initial indications are that IOS 14 has fixed all the poor wifi connectivity and performance issues on my iPhone SE 2020. On my porch where before I could either not connect or got service of about 6 MBPS, I am now getting 220 MBPS. This is actually now the best speed I am getting among all my Apple devices. My faith in Apple is restored.

Have you tried the following?

    • Tap Wi-Fi.
    • Tap the information icon or blue i located next to the connected network.
    • Tap the option to Forget This Network.
    • Tap Forget to confirm.
    • Restart your iPhone then go back to Settings-> Wi-Fi menu.
    • Scan for available wireless network then tap to select your Wi-Fi network to join or connect to.
    • If prompted, enter the network password to continue.

2.Reset Network Settings?

    • Tap Settings from the Home screen.
    • Tap General.

Call AppleCare and explain this. I spent almost 2 hours on the phone with them... they accessed my phones remotely (we have 2 new SE's), and stepped through all the problems I mentioned, to document it. Then those log files are uploaded to software engineers at Apple. They have been diligent in keeping appointments to call me back and the issue has been escalated to senior engineers. The more people that call and mention this, the faster, hopefully, there will be a solution.

I had this exact problem. My new iPhone SE 2020 would not establish a WiFi signal in my office whereas my iPhone 6 has 2/3 WiFi bars on the indicator. The suggestions in this thread and other places that seek to run you through the list of 'forget network and re-establish' and 'is your router OK?' are red herrings. I spent a month testing the SE 2020 vs. my iPhone 6 and concluded the WiFi performance on the SE 2020 is severely limited in comparison. I worked with ATT to return my SE 2020 and upgraded to an iPhone 11 pro. I am happy to report the 11 pro has /better/ WiFi than my iPhone 6, and works great in my office whereas the SE 2020 could not even see a WiFi signal. Keep in mind I have three Ubiquiti AC PRO access points in a 2400 sq. ft. house, so suffice it to say my WiFi signal is nearly ideal. An suffice it to say, the SE 2020 WiFi performance is literally the worst I have seen on any device including 20 year old laptops. I firmly believe Apple should at least notate in their literature that the WiFi performance may be an issue for some users. In my case, it was fully unusable.
