iPhone XS Max full memory Error 14

I’ve got a serious problem with my iPhone XS Max 256 Gb

It started when my phone memory was full and it was working too slowly. I rebooted it, and it got stuck in a boot loop (apple logo). I then tried to put in in Recovery Mode and update it via Mac/PC (It did not have the latest iOS). The upgrade failed halfway through with Error 14. Then I opened the iPhone and disconnected the LCD etc., but still, Error 14 appeared when I was trying to upgrade. Now it is stuck in Recovery Mode.

I've read a lot of messages from people who have the same problem! We need a skeleton IOS for this situation! Apple have really made a mistake in allowing a phone to reach such a full capacity

It is a tragedy to lose my photos and videos!!! There are the best moments of my life in this locked phone! I need help!

Support service recommended me to restore my phone with no opportunity to save my data! That’s completely impossible! My photos and videos were an integral part of my life. There should be the way out! Help me, please!

It just happened to me. Run out of space on iPhone 7 plus, reloaded my iPhone and had the Apple logo stuck on my screen. Tried to update the phone and got error 14. Now I'm stuck in a recovery mode. I refuse to believe that I lost all my data. Something has to be done immediately! My next phone won't be from Apple if this problem isn't fixed soon!!!

I potentially lost at least 1 year and a half of photos, videos and notes as that was the time my iPhone stopped automatically backing up. I ran out of space on my mac as well so I couldn't use it for back up. I bough external hard drive, but it was too late. My iPhone 7 Plus worked fine, it regularly told me that I was running out of space and I was deleting data up to the point when those deleted files started coming back and there was no way to free up any space on the iPhone! This is when I received a white screen with a logo after reloading my phone hoping it would help. It didn't. I was planning to buy a new iPhone 12 and I'm glad I didn't as this phone is very unreliable and there is no guarantee I won't lost my data again. I bought an Android phone today cause I need a phone and I'm happy so far. I will keep my iPhone 7 Plus until Apple is sued. They might release the fix after that. Until then, no more iPhones and greedy Apple. If the problem isn't fixed at all, I will replace my MacBook Pro later as well.

I tried many options and nothing worked because Apple doesn't allow to downgrade iPhone to the previous unsigned firmware. This was done by design so that we were buying additional space on iCloud and learn the lesson hard way. Well, Tim Cook, if your clients turn to Android because of how greedy you are, I don't think you will be happy.

A “brick” ia an unrecoverable device. This is a recoverable situation.

What will you do in turn to prevent loss if your data?

eg

Backup at a frequency that suits the value of your data. Assume that at some stage the worst will happen, lost, stolen, dropped, water ingress or error 14

Use a photographic workfllow that protects your photos and minimises space. (Such as iCloud or import to computer and sync back which saves 50% space )

Would a pro photographer keep several weddings and news stories in their camera for months til the memory was full?

Hey, I´m just answering this because I promissed I would tell the world if it worked. I had same issue, during a travel with several photos each day, on the last day my phone started to crash the apps and I did what I usually do, turned off my phone. When I turned back on it got stuck on apple logo and nothing showed on these tutorials worked. I even put my phone on rice thinking it could be a water problem (this would be last reason since I have a Pro Max 11 waterproof). I started to see the tutorials to update the phone through Itunes and then error 14 started to appear. As I was not paying any attention to my storage space it was likely this was the issue. I read thousand of websites and youtube tutorials about this problem and started to feel spoiled for almost crying for a few photos lost, I was certain I would not recovery the not backed up photos. BUT THEN...

I had an idea, the last one before finally restoring the iphone and losing the data... I saw several tutorial showing how to update the software on itunes downloading a firmware available for your device model. When I tried the first time I chose the last version available IOS 14.3 (6.36 GB) and during the update it didn´t surpass more then 1/3 of the loading bar. Since the issue is the low storage space I thought that maybe if I choose the IOS 14.2 (6.29 GB), version my phone was updated before, since it requires less space it could work out. I was hopeless when started the update and for my surprise the apple loading bar was almost 95%. I waited for a few minutes and then Itunes stopped and showed Error 6. It did not take long (about 10 min), I was searching tutorials to fix error 6 when MY PHONE TURNED ON AFTER 3 DAYS STUCK ON APPLE LOGO. It may not work for all cases but since I saw thousands of desperate users, it could maybe help a few.

There are multiple tutorials on the internet indicating this type of software update.. just choose a reliable website that has the green check (signed and accepted by iTunes). Who has tried to download these paid softwares that promise to recover the data have more chances to cause damages to the phone. Besides, after you turn back on your phone, you will need to update the IOS to the most updated version anyway but this time you will have the ability to delete the exceeded data or save on your computer before updating.

You have not confirmed that you saved the photos that were not backed up.

LisaJean723 needs that as primary concern.

I did.. I wouldn’t be writing here what happened to me if I had lost my photos.. My phone turned back on with all photos that wasn’t backed up to ICloud. I spent one day restoring the photos from my library and confirming I had everything on the cloud. After that I updated to IOS last version (14.3) from my phone and it went ok.

The exact same thing happened to my iphone 11 pro running ios 13 with low storage. I turned it off and it never turned back on. I'm in recovery mode now and trying to update to ios 14.3 but it fails at about 30% with error 14. I would also be very interested in the resources you used to upgrade to 14.2 instead to recover my photos.

All, I found a good how-to inside one of apple forums here, just in case you think I’m trying to damage your phone downloading a malicious software, this trick is legit (search for thread 5180100, page 3, “My phone has gone into recovery mode...”). For my case it didn’t concluded the download but since it reached almost 97% of loading bar, my phone turned back on.

To anyone who is searching through this post looking for an answer to the original question, let me tell you this. NO.. YOUR INFORMATION IS NOT GONE AND YOU CAN STILL GET IT BACK. If your iphone is stuck in recovery mode, you can still get your photos, contacts, and any other information needed back again.

I know you're probably frustrated like I was of people saying things like "just restore from back up", or "you have to restore the iphone first to get it working again"...or suggesting tools like Dr. Fone, and TinyUmbrella which don't work at all because the phone isn't being recognized in Windows explorer or by the USB in general.

This is what you have to do. Repeat, this is ONLY for an iphone that is able to be turned on an all you get is the usb plug saying plug into itunes screen (the Recovery Mode screen).

This process is for Windows. I think some MAC users will be able to follow it also, but the instructions are for PC users.

1.) Turn your iphone on if it isn't already.

2.) Load up itunes (make sure you have the latest Itunes. I would even suggest that you uninstall your itunes if it isn't up to date, through Control Panel Add/Remove programs, and then go to the Itunes website and download the latest version.)

3.) When you load up Itunes, it will tell you that your iphone needs to be updated or restored. Just click okay or cancel to get that dialog box out of the way. Then just minimize the itunes for right now.

4.) Download the firmware (just type on your browser example “firmware iphone 11 pro max”) for your correct model of iphone (remember to download IOS 14.2, NOT 14.3). Just choose your model from the drop down boxes. Once you've chosen everything, click the Download button. It will produce a link. Just click the link and take note of where that file downloads on your computer.

5.) Once the download finishes, go back to Itunes...and you'll have two buttons to click... Restore and Update. VERY IMPORTANT: Hold down the SHIFT key and click UPDATE (SHIFT + UPDATE) .

6.) A box will pop up to search for a file. Navigate to the folder that you downloaded the firmware file in step 4 to. And choose that file.

7.) Then Itunes will tell you things like Blah blah..this file might not work, if your phone can't be updated it will have to be restored....blah blah. Just click OK through all of that and start the update.

8.) Your phone will update to the latest firmware after a pretty lengthy process, maybe about 30-40 mins. Could be longer, but it will work. Don't get anxious, don't unplug the iphone because you think it's frozen or something. There will be times when it seems like it's not doing anything. Just sit back, put on a netflix movie, and continue to monitor the process from time to time. Soon your iphone will turn back on...and everything will be updated and back to normal.

BACK IT UP IMMEDIATELY!

I hope this works for a lot of you out there, and I hope it gives those of you like me who felt there was no hope.......a little bit of relief.
