some keys have suddenly stopped responding and i dont know what to do! help

help! ever since i updated my macbook some keys have stopped working. specifically the delete key and the arrow keys. when i press backspace it doesnt even respond and when i want to scroll down the arrow keys do work but for example i end up seeing the end of the page i was viewing. i have searched possible solutions but nothing works and im lost!!
