Alternative to QT Pro 7

I think others have asked this but I'm going to again. Does anyone know of a good alternative for QTPro's simple editing functions? I use it to pull clips and stills (using the specific internal timecode) as well as delete or mute audio tracks as needed.

I have access to editing software like Premiere and iMovie but they are much more complicated and it's a slower process. Plus they reset the timecode to zero, which is a pain if I'm trying to pull a specific frame.

I'd like something simple and easy like Quicktime Pro. Does that exist??

Hey there cm_dv,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand you’d like to know of an app that used the editing features of QuickTime Pro on your Mac running macOS Catalina. I’ll be happy to help.

QuickTime Player on your Mac still has some great editing features. I’m not sure if you’ve tried them out but these articles can guide you on how these work in the current version:

Trim a movie or clip in QuickTime Player on Mac

Remove audio or video from a movie in QuickTime Player on Mac

Split a movie into clips in QuickTime Player on Mac

If that doesn't do what you want, you may want to review some video editing apps in the App Store.

Regards.

MPEG Streamclip is even better than QT Player Pro 7. In the past I have used both a lot to mangle .dv, MPEG1/2, H.264 and audio files (Apple's MPEG2 Playback component is needed for full MPEG2 support).

...but sadly it has not been updated in ages and you need to Get Info > Open in low res to make it work in Mojave and despite that it has some display issues. And it doesn't work in Catalina at all...

I haven't yet found a good alternative. The new QT Player is too dumbed down IMO. This is a good 3rd party opportunity -- maybe I should finally learn programming?!

Thanks. I know that I can do clips in QT, but it's not quite as precise and I don't see the timecode visible anymore when doing a clip.

For removing audio - it only seems to allow you to remove ALL audio. I don't see any way in QT to select specific audio tracks to mute, delete, or extract as in QTPro. If I have a video with 4 tracks of audio and need to remove or extract 2 of them, QT is no help.

I am aware that the app store exists. My post was to ask if anyone had any specific apps they could recommend, as my own searches (on the internet and in the app store) were not helpful.
