MBP 16 - battery drains overnight for 60 per cent

Hi guys,

I've got a new MBP 16 and after couple of weeks of use noticed that the battery drains 50-60 percent overnight. Catalina version 10.5.4. I've tried to reinstall Catalina 2 times - one time with reinstallation of os only and second time with complete system wipe out. From the apps I have a standard Apple set menu + Final Cut Pro + MS office 365 + Slack + zoom, i.e. nothing too fancy.

I tried pmset - see the result

pmset -g

System-wide power settings:

Currently in use:

 standbydelaylow      10800

 standby              1

 halfdim              1

 hibernatefile        /var/vm/sleepimage

 proximitywake        0

 powernap             0

 gpuswitch            2

 disksleep            10

 standbydelayhigh     86400

sleep                1 (sleep prevented by coreaudiod, sharingd)

 hibernatemode        3

 ttyskeepawake        1

displaysleep         2 (display sleep prevented by com.apple.WebKit.WebContent)

 tcpkeepalive         1

 highstandbythreshold 50

 acwake               0

 lidwake              1

I am particularly confused by display sleep parameter. Is this smth preventing my MBP from sleep? Would appreciate any guidance as Apple Helpdesk suggestions were around playing with the battery settings.

There are many reports 16" MBP sleep panic issues...

This may or may not be tied into the same issue you are having with battery

A software update has not been released as of yet.

A known work a round is to turn off Power Nap—both on Battery & on Power Adapter

Internal display you can run on the Integrated graphics, which typically run cooler.

External display however demand the Discrete graphics processor — and the Discrete GPU draws more power.

There have been numerous complaints the discrete graphics processor drawing large amounts of power, however Apple has provided no work-arounds or associated documentation.

Always connect to AC-power with an external display on MacBook Pro.
