power book g4 17 inch 2005

I have a power book g4 17 inch 2005 when you press the power button the hard drive spins up and clicks a couple of times and nothing happens the display stays blank and no boot chime. it charges the battery when plugged in. any help would really be appreciated.

Clean install of Ventura 13.1 freezes at Language selection screen I have created a bootable external drive with Ventura 13.1 for M1 Silicon devices. It successfully installs just fine on MacBook Air (M1,2020), Mac Mini (M1,2020). However when installing on a MacBook Pro - at the language selection screen, as soon as I select a language it freezes for ~20 minutes - the cursor will respond in jerky fashion the whole time but won’t accept input - occasionally showing the beach ball. However, after 20 (approx) minutes, it will drop the language selection screen and show an all grey background (plus jerky cursor) for another 10 minutes, before it finally moves to the next screen and then suddenly installation continues normally.

Rebooting & Touch Bar Crashes after Ventura update Hey Everyone, After updating to Ventura, my Mac Pro 2019 occasionally restarts after a suspected problem while on sleep mode and the touch bar disappears. I keep sending the crash report to Apple so hopefully on the next update they can fix the issue. For the moment what works is that I have to keep reseting the SMC but it's such a pain, and it keeps rebooting every so often

I tried the combination on the key board and it did not work. I don't think it is the pmu because the power book charges the battery perfectly fine. any other thoughts.

I will check shortly. I plan to leave the power book on charge for 24 hours and see if I can stuff any more power in to those batteries.

I have tried booting the power book up with out the pram battery and it does not seem to make a difference it still shows the same symptoms as before.

Try an SMU or PMU reset. It has been ages since I worked on this system, but I believe the SMU/PMU reset button is located beneath the Keyboard when you lift the Keyboard up. Otherwise the reset button is located near the memory slots when you remove the memory cover.

You want to press the SMU/PMU micro switch just one time for less than a second or you could crash the SMU/PMU. Wait 15 seconds, the power on the laptop. I like to use a nylon probe to make sure I can feel the switch being pressed.

If the hard drive is clicking, then that doesn't bode well for the drive. It is possible the drive is preventing the system from powering up.

I will measure the output of the batteries I believe my power book model has 2 batteries and they are soldered on to a board with a usb on it theis board is connected to the logic board with a ribbon cable. I will disconnect this and try to power on the powerbook.(I plugged the hdd in to a working power and it booted up in to mac os 10.4.11)
