Assuming that your iPad is configured to use an IMAP mailbox, then all your email should still be present on the email server. As such, simply removing the email account from your iPad, force-restarting the iPad, then re-add the email account.

To remove the email account from your iPad:

Settings > Passwords & Accounts - select the relevant email account, then tap Delete Account

Next, force-restart your iPad:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On an iPad with Face ID: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

After your iPad restarts, re-add the email account:

Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Add Account
