Finder forcing focus

I just restarted my Mac and now the Finder keeps grabbing focus every few minutes. I see where others have complained of this problem but I have seen no solution whatsoever. The suggestion is to restart, but the problem started after a restart! It doesn't matter what application I'm in, Finder will grab focus. I've been in Safari, Chrome, Pages, Mail, and iMove and had this issue. What the heck is going on here???

The cause of that annoying behavior is always an ill-mannered app, such as one that automatically checks for updates or "phones home" for reasons known only to it.

The problem is tracking it down. You mentioned that it occurs in Chrome which means that you willfully installed Google on your Mac. I'd start by uninstalling it.

Here's another recent Discussion that identified a trackball as the culprit: Focus switches to Finder every 15 - 20 seconds on iMac
