Initialize a new DVD

How do I initialize and record to a new DVD+R disk with Mac OS Catalina on MacBook Pro?

Disk Utility comes up and simply says "Uninitialized", with zero capacity.

Using USB SuperDrive.

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.15

When I insert the empty DVD+R disk, I get the disk utility and it shows:

HL-DT-ST DVDRW GX50N Media. Zero KB

Uninitialized

Capacity: Zero KB

Do I have the wrong media? What would be the right media?

Thanks,

Charlie L

—you can try cleaning the laser head with a commercial head cleaner.

—You can try a different DVD reader/burner

—You can try a different brand name DVD

Maybe the same bug—

DVD-RW is showing uninitialized - and doesn't come up under remote disk using LG Slim Portable DVD Writer
