I fixed it by rolling back to a previous Restore Point and then reinstalling the iCloud update.

How to recover using System Restore on Windows 10

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for Create a restore point, and click the top result to open the System Properties experience.
  3. Click the System Restore button.
  4. Click the Next button.
  5. Select the restore point that you want to use on your computer.

Hey there CARLUVKRIS,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand you’re running into an error when attempting to update iCloud for Windows. I’ll be happy to help.

If an update for iCloud for Windows is failing, make sure that you meet the system requirements for iCloud for Windows.

If that looks good and you still can’t update, restart your computer and try manually updating by downloading the latest version here:

Merlin309,

You got it all wrong, I think you are conflating my solution

with Carluvkris’s solution. I did not uninstall iCloud.

When I install a programme Windows creates a Restore point.

So when I tried to install iCloud 11.1 a restore point was created.

I rolled back to the restore point just prior to the 11.1

install, it kept all my programs and files, I lost nothing.

I suggest you try it and see what dates your restore points options are

and then either cancel the rollback or proceed.

This worked for me and I hope you can sort out your problem.

I had a slightly different message "We detected that you are using an older version of Windows" which wasn't about the windows build, but the absence of HEVC and HEIF support from MS, they are available, but sadly seem optional...

Installing these 2 fixed my 11.1 install. Maybe worth checking out, not sure 11.1 would work without them.

Details here:-

PS. The upgrade is a worthwhile update as it now supports genuine iCloud syncing, allowing you to save space by removing the local copy. It also now supports Folder Sharing ala MacOS and iOS.
