13" MacBook Pro 2017 - Blinking horizontal lines at the top of the screen

There are horizontal lines blinking at the top of my screen after some heavy using time.

Model: MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)

Processor 2.3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5

macOS Catalina: version 10.15.4

I have tried reseting SMC and PRAM, but the lines were still there.

Does anyone encounter this problem as well?

The repair program seems to be only for MacBook Pro 2016, isn't it?

GUYS I HAVE IMPORTANT NEWS: I GOT FREE REPAIR

be prepared for what i am going to say, it will be unpleasant for most of you but i hope to let you get my impression and what i feel like it worked in order to get a free repair.

I write from Italy, Milan and my problem regards a MacBook Pro 2017 13'' (2 thunderbolts, no touch bar) since september 2020, i tried a lot of calls to Apple support, at least two different practices with long trials via software updates, computer formatting and many other useless solutions: the problem was definitely hardware.

I think that someone in this discussion got the keypoint: it seems a detail but i seriously think that what makes really the difference in this terrible situation is the Keyboard Service Program (https://support.apple.com/keyboard-service-program-for-mac-notebooks), i don't know why but i had a feeling that there was a correlation between this program and the other one (yes you read it correctly: THERE IS ANOTHER PROGRAM).

Yesterday, unfortunately, or now i would say fortunately, one key fell off, i also noticed the barspace having some issues when writing (sometimes double space was written with one touch) and in my mind i remember also the bottom arrow being sticky.

Without any hope i went to Apple Support and also tried again to talk about the horizontal lines problem: they recognized in 5 minutes the keyboard problem, and BE PREPARED... they also recognized the horizontal lines, they even didn't want to see it, a picture was enough for them (and by the way is the same pic you can find above this answer and that other apple workers refused) mentioning that there is "another repair program", i literally asked for the name of it and where to find it, the worker smiled and told me that "some of these programs are silent", can you imagine guys? SOME OF THESE PROGRAMS ARE SILENT. I had spent lot of time asking about this problem and the answer was always the same: there is no repair program for this.

I don't know if those of you that received this response went phisically to genius bar, i feel like this is an internal procedure that they apply in certain situations (and here i think that they apply it mostly if you have also keyboard problem), but if no information is provided on their website (like with the first repair program) maybe online they will tell you that it doesn't exist simply because they don't know it and they read the info from the website.

At the end of the day they recognized both problems and give a free repair for a total amount of almost 1000 euros, this can't be real.

I will add an extra point: to me the worker was a lot aware of the problem of horizontal lines, in 2 seconds he said that he knew well that problem and that was related to "some connectors" that had this issue and which is causing in these models sometimes horizontal, sometimes vertical lines, to me it looks that he literally said that apple knows well this problem, this strategy seems a sneaky way to minimize free repairs. YOU MUST INSIST GUYS.

I don't know, i am seriously confused, happy for me but sad for you, i want you all to insist as i did, trying the approach i pointed in this answer. The following pics proof what i am saying.

well there is no guarantee that the problem will not happen even after you replace your full laptop monitor for whooping $800. So I don't recommend anyone to replace it. Till apple hits with Law suit I don't think there is any chance apple will offer repair to us. In phone they directly said pay store whatever they demands and they don't have any control over store. I told them its their defect but they answer me pay what store demands.

To make a conclusion, we are not going to get free repair and even if we repair by paying the same problem can happen after 1-2 year.

I considered this solution too, but honestly, i have a feeling that this is not the real one.

I would like to solve the problem once and for all, i mean, using the computer like before, it's our right.

Instead, i feel that now you have to be strictly careful on what you do, if you overuse your computer.

Guys, i am not a NASA scientist, but i am a developer, probably like some of you and i could use my laptop for more than 4-5 hours, if Apple cannot guarantee this performance after 2 years, it's time to lower the price

anyway nobody should repair it for 800$ for 3 year old laptop when you can add $400 and get new apple m1 2020 which is 3x fast[?]. Apple making repair costs looks like forcing people to buy new macbook so at the end they will profit.

And in this forum moderator deletes message/ edit messages anyway making it even worst. They don't help but they make sure there is no message that proves apple is bad.

I do have same issue. Started with thin line on bottom. And it is same like yours like 1-2 inch of dark. There is no damage but apple thinks its the user mistake so they want you to pay 800$. If you refuse they wont repair your laptop. And if you go and chat with support they say "They haven't heard any issue so you have to pay what store demands".

Meanwhile Apple is enjoying the success of M1 and here we are left with broken 2017 defect piece.

It would be great if they say our (user) mistake and we will not do it again. When it is cold especially just after opening the lid for the first time in a day, my screen is perfect, but after it starts to get warm, bottom of the screen becomes dark and the hotter it is, the worse it become. How can it be my fault? I really don't understand.

Simply because it's not, everybody knows that: when i had my assistance on telephone, it sounded like an investigation on my each single behavior that could sound dangerous for the computer, and as soon as it could be candidate of wrong usage, it sounded like my fault, everytime.

Things like "you use it too much, you keep the display on for too much, you have filled too much your cache", guess how many times they tried to speculate if it could be their mistake: yes, exactly, Z-E-R-O. This tells a lot about their policy...

And, of course, i know how to take care of my laptop, but still, i want to underline something: the price of this computer was almost 2000 euros, i don't expect to stress it, drop it and crash it without consequences, but of course i didn't do anything like that, is this product worthy if its life expectation is explicitly 2 years?

What makes me even more nervous is that the more time passes, the more i could accidentally do anything wrong to my computer: it's like they are not only ignoring us, but also letting things worsen deliberately.

I tried going through the same route. Even though the Apple representative on the phone accepted after much insisting that such a program insisted, the repair technicians told me it wouldn’t be possible to repair my screen ‘because of the appearance of lines’.

Even though my claim is valid, I was turned away yet again. This was in India. Where did you get this done?

Guys I guess there is no point of posting here. Here moderator deletes every comments. They will email you saying your comment doesn't have constructive criticism. Moderator think they are god.

Apple support think their product can't have any defect. If you talk to support they think tcon placement near to heatsink is fine. If laptop doesn't gets damaged how would apple store gets $800 usd ransom? They intentionally do these thing so people would buy their new macbooks .
