Using GoPro & MacBook Air for live streaming

Hey everyone, I just had a question regarding streaming with a GoPro as my camera into my MacBook Air.

I looked into how to hook the GoPro up to the Mac - using the the USB cable from the GoPro for power/charging, and then the mini-HDMI out into the Mac. It is with the HDMI I am confused.

A lot of the videos I see online say to go from the GoPro with a mini-HDMI to HDMI, then HDMI to USB via an adapter. My question is can I use my HDMi to Lightning adapter instead? I use this adapter when I want to use a 2nd monitor for my Mac, although it would be the other way around (Lightning to HDMI, going from the Mac out).

If I can't do this and have to use HDMI to USB, what adapter should I get off amazon? I see so many with such a wide range of prices.

Thanks a lot!
