Laggy / Stuttering Bluetooth Logitech M720 mouse on Macbook Air 2020

Just purchased Macbook Air 2020 using macOS Catalina 10.15.4 with maxed out specs 1.2GHz i7 and 16gb memory.

I've paired it with the Logitech M720 Triathlon mouse using Bluetooth. And it stutters. Even when I change to the unifying dongle option it stutters.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Hello toreen,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. IT sounds like you’re having trouble with a Bluetooth mouse. I’m happy to help.

To start, try the steps in the article below:

Using a Bluetooth mouse, keyboard, or trackpad with your Mac - Apple Support

For troubleshooting, try these steps:

Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference - Apple Support

If your pointer is jumpy when you use a trackpad, Magic Trackpad, or Magic Mouse - Apple Support

Should the issue persist, in safe mode (the last step of the second article), try testing a different Bluetooth mouse. If the second one doesn’t have issues, reach out to Logitech for further troubleshooting.

Take care.

Thanks for the reply Brenden. Appreciate the info.

Some things I've looked into and carried out:

  1. Since posting I reset the Bluetooth on the Macbook but no luck there.
  2. I went through the document you posted. Unfortunately, it did not help.
  3. I also tested the mouse on a Dell laptop and had no issues with the mouse. It was smooth and did not stutter.

What's even more annoying now is that the mouse will stop working for a second when I open or close an application. Not all the time but it's happened a few times now.

For example, I was opening Zoom to go to a video chat. Or yesterday I closed Photoshop. Not sure how or why opening/closing an application should mean the mouse stops working for a moment.

Surely, this should not interfere with the functioning of the mouse.

Other things I'll be looking at:

  1. Wiping the Macbook and starting again from scratch. I have somehow managed to crash the Macbook a few times.
  2. I'm thinking of taking the mouse into a store to test the mouse on another Macbook Air for comparison.

Any other advice is much appreciated.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the extra info.

I did review and go through Logitech's suggestions. I was not able to fix the issue.

Unfortunately, I've had many problems with Macbook Air 2020. The first one I purchased, the display stopped working. I was able to get a new replacement but this next one crashed all the time - a separate issue for another time.

The new Macbook Air 2020, admittedly, the stutter was less obvious but it was still there.

In the end, I have returned the Macbook. Disappointed as a first time user. But I do hope someone figures out what the issue is using a Logitech mouse with bluetooth on Macbook Air.
