Is there a way to improve airplay quality when streaming from MacBook to Apple TV?

It’s slightly choppy and only at certain points and I think you would only notice it if your were paying attention to it while looking at both the computer and the tv at the same time, but I would like to make the stream as smooth as possible. This has been a problem even years ago when I had 1 of the original Apple TV’s so I don’t think there is a way to improve how smooth it streams except with a HDMI cable.
