mid 2010 video port

I have a mid 2010 macbook A1342 dual core and I want to use an external monitor. I have tried various adapters: mini display port to vga, mini dvi to vga, etc - none are the correct size. Can anyone help identify the correct adapter, please? Thanks!

Yes, that is Mini DisplayPort. A Mini DisplayPort/VGA adapter WILL fit and drive a VGA monitor. A Mini DisplayPort/HDMI adapter will fit and drive a HDMI ready TV set.

If it is not working in one of these setups, there is a problem with either the computer, port, cable or peripheral. Try p-ram zap and SMC reset to rule out software on the computer. Also try another monitor and cable (Mini DisplayPort) adapter.

I appreciate the reply. However, I may not have explained the issue correctly. I have tried to physically fit a mini display port to vga adapter and minidvi to vga and they do not fit into the port. These are the adapters I attempted to put into the port and they do not fit. Did I order a mini display port to vga adapter and was sent the wrong thing?
