The last few days, I have been using the screenshot commands (shift, command + 4, then spacebar or shift, command, 5 + capture) on my Mac and the screenshot opens directly in Messages. Is anyone else having the same problem?
iMac 21.5", macOS 10.13
Launch the Screenshot.app by searching for it with Spotlight and clicking on it in the Spotlight search results window. Then click in the Options button in its toolbar and select Desktop or where you would like them to be saved instead of Messages:

Thank you!! Just getting used to this option and forgot I had selected messages. I appreciate the help.
My screenshots keep opening in Messages. Anyone else having the same problem?
