My 2020 macbook air grainy camera quality

My 2020 macbook air bought 2 months ago is said to have a 720p facetime camera. The quality is horrible and grainy, to me it looks a lot closer to 480p. My previous 2016 macbook air is also a 720p camera but the quality looks very clear and HD to me. Is there any way I can get this fixed without having to buy an external web cam as it isin't very practical for me in everyday use.

It looks like this even when in a well lit room.

Hello riona2005,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

I understand from your post that when using FaceTime on your MacBook Air 2020 the camera image is graining. This image quality is expected of this model of MacBook Air. It is recommended that you use the camera in an area that has more ambient light. You can also leave feedback about this here:

Hello brenden dv,

I'm using my macbook air 2020 in a clearer place as suggested but the granulation problem still persists, is this some software bug or camera really inferior ?

We'll have some recall related to this problem or some fix via software.

At this point I need to use it often for work due to social isolation and I have noticed a big difference for an employee who has a 2012 model which the resolution seems much better than mine.

I look forward to your feedback.
