Mail rules not working properly.

Have a look at the screen shot.  If I set it up this way it does not move any messages over time to the bin.

If I apply the rule simulating I have changed it, it moves all of them to the bin.  What is happening here?  Any solutions?

It appears from your description it is working exactly as you have designed it. But that's not what you want.

You have it set to match Any of those criteria.

So, since Every Message matches every message, it will move every message regardless of the date.

Rules only work automatically on the Inbox when they arrive. It doesn't automatically process messages that are sitting in the inbox.

You will never receive a message that is older than 7 days, so that never trips.

Sent messages are not in the Inbox, so it will never trigger on the Date Sent.

When you run it manually, it will move every message because you told it to match every message.

Get rid of the Every Message criteria and you can then run that manually on both the Inbox and Sent Box.

Thanks Barney.

so you are saying this can not be done automatically?

O well, there we are it is only 2020. :-))

Being 2020 has nothing to do with it. In order for such a rule to run automatically it would have to be constantly running and scanning all your emails, regardless of location. Any email could turn 7 days old at any second so your system resources would be consumed scanning potentially thousands of emails all the time.
