Overheating issues on iOS 13.5
I have been experiencing overheating on my iPhone 11 Pro Max after the iOS 13.5 update even with minimal usage (eg. Safari web browsing). Anyone else having this issue as well?

It is not clear here in your post about the ambient temperature in your area where you are using the iPhone. However --> Keeping iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch within acceptable ...
Store the device where the temperature is between -20º and 45º C (-4º to 113º F). Don’t leave the device in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range.
Use iOS devices where the ambient temperature is between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). Low- or high-temperature conditions might cause the device to change its behavior to regulate its temperature. Using an iOS device in very cold conditions outside of its operating range might temporarily shorten battery life and could cause the device to turn off. Battery life will return to normal when you bring the device back to higher ambient temperatures. Using an iOS device in very hot conditions can permanently shorten battery life.
I'm having the same issue. During normal usage, in ambient temps of 65 degrees or so iPhone heats up to where I can hardly hold it. I close all apps, have background data refresh turned on, on only a handful of apps and it gets blistering hot. Yesterday, I wasn't even using it after closing all my apps and it started to burn (no, not seriously) my leg in my pocket. When I looked, it had drained the battery by nearly 30% in the last half hour without any usage. Monitoring my usage patterns (comparing my Week over Week screen time usage) I'm getting about half the battery life I normally do and the temp (both on the screen side and back side) is extremely concerning. So hot that I wouldn't dare let a child play with my phone. The Week over Week comparisons are important, as I only updated my software 3 days ago.
I do not know whether I should contact apple for this, as my warranty still have 6 more days before ending
My battery capacity remained 97% for almost 11 months. Recently it dropped to 94% and after only two more days it dropped to 92% !!!
should I contact them ?
I'm still having the same this end. I backed up my XS and re-installed 13.5.1. It's better but it's not perfect. It still has it's moments especially when I'm in Safari. I removed Twitter and very carful in FB. If you still have warranty then I would go see Apple and ask them for advice.
I have iphone 7 plus. After the update to ios13.5, phone gets overheated. Even when I listen music online it gets heated and I have to close all the apps. Is there any way to downgrade to previous version?
This is so annoying with so many of us suffering this silly issue. The iPhone X had problems in 2017 so it’s not a recent thing.
Unfortunately you can’t go back to a previous iOS. Although it would help us, for the bigger audience probably not. Apple would have a situation similar to Android with people running a mish mash of outdated Software which would cause more problems.
Absolutely. That means permanent battery damage, and it wasn’t for regular use, it’s not your fault. I don’t now what their response will be, but iOS 13 it’s killing they phones, even new ones. So they need to do something asap
I am from Sri Lanka. And I did IOS update yesterday and I face the same issue here. I have an iPhone X and Before the update it was fine (until yesterday), but now the heat is abnormal & the battery level is losing very badly.
This is happening to my 11 pro. I have even gotten errors that the phone can’t be used until it cools down, this is new with the 13.5 and 13.5.1 updates. Normal usage in an air conditioned room. It is scary.
I have an IPhone X and since I updated it to 13.5.1 it overheats to the point i cannot touch it. I have tried everything all of the suggestions I have even reset it twice now to factory settings… To no avail! Almost afraid to charge it thinking it’s going to catch fire....not sure what else to do I’m in a normal climate indoors – not too hot not too cold very comfortable home, nothing extreme...
Not sure how else to correct the problem and our Apple stores where I live are all closed still… Has anybody had any luck correcting the problem?
Apple, do you plan on fixing this problem anytime soon…??
Also.... i do not use any games, or play music... and i do not have ny rogue apps at all. Just normal talk, text and occasional google search. So none of the things people say are causing the issue.... hope someone has anew suggestion or Apple actually fixes it
Oh great, so even the new phones are having the same problem?
Apple, this is not making me want to upgrade and I was planning on doing that this week.
my 7 is overheating to the point where it burned my hand and the skin was sensitive to the touch for several days. This is not safe.
I'm using it in an air conditioned house, temp is in the low to mid 70s. It overheats even in low power mode, does not matter if it’s plugged in.
I’m having the same issue. I thought it was just the hot weather but today it’s 18° and I’m only running a few apps. My phone overheated to the point of the screen automatically dimming. My battery drains way faster now too. The temperature of my phone is at 42°!!!
I am having the same overheating problems on 13.5.1. On some apps I can start to feel it heat up after a minute.
I have tried a few suggestions. Making sure all my apps were up to date seemed to have helped a little bit but still the problem is there.
Has anyone had any success? I am loathed to do a full factory reset especially as some people have said it made no difference.
I did a hard reset (NOT factory reset) last night and it took a long while to boot. I haven’t used my phone too much today so I’ll have to wait and see but so far I haven’t had any overheating issues.
I agree with you as well. I put my phone on my bike under 95F here in Florida and after the latest update it heats up a lot and stops my music. There is something wrong with apple latest update and they need to do something about it. I have an IPhone 11Pro Max. Thank you.
