Apple News+ subscription not working for particular Desktop Mac.

I have an Apple News+ subscription which used to work on my desktop Mac. It continues to work on a laptop and and IOS devices. My desktop now thinks I am not subscribed, but when I try to "subscribe" it recognizes I have a subscription. Any suggestions?

This happened after I tried to change Apple ID that I use for the subscription. I have two Apple IDs, one for iCloud and one for iTunes. I resubscribed using the original ID and the subscription was never actually turned off.

[I have unchecked "News" on the iCloud panel and then rechecked it several times. I have restarted the computer several times, and also shut down and restarted news several times. To no avail.]

[Not confident this is being posted in correct place, but I cannot find a Support subject tied to Apple News or Apple News+ problems.]

Thank you.

Hello bwhinneryx,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities! I understand you are having an issue with your Apple News+ subscription since changing your Apple ID. I'm happy to help you find some information.

First, I would like you to sign out of your iCloud account on your Mac. Then sign back in.

If you're using macOS Catalina, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, click Apple ID, then click iCloud. If you're using macOS Mojave or earlier, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click iCloud.

  • If you're signed out, enter your updated Apple ID and password to sign in. The data in iCloud will automatically appear on your device after you sign in.
  • If you're signed in with your previous Apple ID:
  1. Click Sign Out. Depending on what iCloud options are turned on, you'll be asked if you want to make copies or delete iCloud data (Contacts, Calendar, Reminders, Bookmarks, Photo Stream) from your Mac. Your data will remain in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.
  2. Enter your updated Apple ID and password to sign in.

Moonj,

Thank you. I did logout of iCloud and then signed in again. Unfortunately I am back where I started. "This story requires a subscription to Apple News+." I checked on my MacBook Pro and it can, as before, see the News+ articles just fine, as can my IOS devices.

On first usage of news after restoring iCloud, I got a "your subscription has expired" message. I then pressed the "Try it free" button under a locked article (there wasn't a button with the "expired" message, so this was the next best option.) I put in the Apple ID and account information I used to renew, and got back a message that I already had a subscription. But I was still locked out. I then, for fun, pressed the "Try it free" button again and used my 2nd Apple ID and ultimately got back the message that I already had a subscription. But I can still not see News+ articles.

(Side note: Apple services appear to recognize that my two IDs, one for Icloud and one for iTunes are associated. That is heartening, but didn't seem to help here.)

Any suggestions? Thank you.
