Shared photos

I'm trying to Share Photos between an iMac (2019) and a MacBook Pro (2019). The two devices have different Apple ids. When I successfully create a Shared Photo album on the iMac I send several invites. None of the the email invites are received (not certain they were actually sent by the iMac), irregardless of the email address used. When I create a Shared Album on the MacBook and send invitations, the email invite to the iMac is not received. However, an iPad on the same Apple id as the iMac receives the invitation and I'm able to successfully connect. All the appropriate selections are marked in System Preference in Apple and on Photos. It appears there is an issue with Shared Photos on the iMac. Both devices are using macOS Catalina 10.15.5. Suggestions?

Make sure both devices have this option enabled in the Photos' iCloud preference pane:

Are you trying to transfer photos between your Photos Library by sharing them as a shared album? You are aware, that Shared albums will strip many of the metadata and transfer the photos at a reduced resolution?

If you want tto transfer the photos at the full resolution and with all metadata applied, it would be better to export the photos from Photos at the full resolution from Photos, then copy them to your other Mac. Shared albums are just for viewing photos, but not fit to transfer photos between devices.

I tested it on my my macs and I can send email invitations to my other macs with a different AppleID. But I have family sharing enabled for the AppleIDs, and iCloud Photos as well for the primary AppleID.

Perhaps that makes a difference. Several users seem to have a similar problem after the macOS 10.15.5 update.
