Pages exported to PDF with hyperlinks that open in a new browser window — how do I do this?

I often use Pages to create documents that are exported as PDFs, to be shared online. Creating simple hyperlinks is, of course, easy — but when viewed online, the links always open in the same browser window (replacing the PDF).

How can I create hyperlinks that will open in a new window/tab?

Not possible. The Pages Link Editor only deals with valid URL addresses. The ability to force a link to open in a new browser window is controlled in an HTML source document using the target attribute of an anchor tag.

Example of forcing a new browser window:

<a href="https://www.apple.com" target="_blank">sample</a>
