Older version of iTunes for Windows won't connect to iTunes store any longer.

I have to use an older version of iTunes so that it is compatible with my older iPod. I CANNOT update iTunes beyond version 10.6.3.25 without losing access to my older iPod, and iPad which are still working fine. I *will not* spend money to buy a new device as long as my device still works.

I can no longer connect to the iTunes store. When I try it spends a long time trying to connect but ultimately fails. When I click on "Help" I'm told that iTunes is not connected to the internet. I have a wired connection to the internet that is working just fine. How do I connect to the iTunes store with my older version of windows so that I can continue to use my working devices that WILL NOT work with newer versions of iTunes?

If I cannot access iTunes using my older version anymore, how do I access the iTunes store without using iTunes?

I don't know the model number. It is an iPod that has the small screen on top and the wheel below it.

I *have* loaded iTunes version 12.7 and reverted back to 12.6 But when I attempt to connect my iPod to my PC and sync it with both of those versions of iTunes, I get the error message: "This device is not compatible with this version of iTunes."

I get this error message with every version of iTunes after 10.6.3.25. No version of iTunes 11.x or 12.x will work.

I'm astounded at the lack of reading comprehension of everyone here. Let me reiterate.

MY IPOD WORKS JUST FINE.

IT NEEDS NO REPLACEMENT PARTS.

I CAN TRANSFER DATA FROM ITUNES VERSION 10.6.3.25 TO MY IPOD FROM MY PC WITH EASE.

I GET THE ERROR MESSAGE TELLING ME THAT "This device is not compatible with this version of iTunes." ON ALL VERSIONS AFTER 10.6.3.25.

I CANNOT TRANSFER DATA FROM ITUNES VERSION 11, 12 OR ANY VARIATIONS THEREOF TO MY IPOD.

I CANNOT CONNECT TO THE ITUNES STORE USING ITUNES VERSION 10.6.3.25.

I DON'T WANT MY IPOD "FIXED"

I JUST WANT TO HAVE ITUNES CONNECT TO THE ITUNES STORE. I WANT ITUNES TO RECOGNIZE THAT I HAVE AN ACTIVE, FAST, AND WIRED CONNECTION TO THE INTERNET.

What is the model of the iPod?

When running Windows 10 you can install iTunes from the Microsoft Store or using a downloaded iTunes64Setup.exe file from Apple's website. It may be that you need to use this old style installer for compatibility with older devices. Use this direct link rather than the Microsoft Store: https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/win64.

Alternatively see Managing apps with iTunes 12.7 or later - Apple Community. If you really cannot get a current build to work then install iTunes 12.6.5.3 using the links provided there. That is the last build capable of transferring iPod click wheel games to and from the device and is also able to connect to the iTunes Store.

As noted you should use iTunes 12.6.5.3, iTunes 12.7.2.58, or anything later than that for iTunes to connect to the store. These versions should be able to work with an iPod classic.

Direct links for these builds are available here with more recent builds listed at the very bottom of the same page.

Anything older than those versions has a broken secure connection to iTunes Store, and the older software interprets this as a complete lack of a valid connection rather than providing a relevant error message advising you to upgrade. See If you can't access the App Store or other Apple media services, or can't edit your payment information - Apple Support - older builds have the same issue as Windows XP and Vista, discontinued support for the TLS1.0 security protocol.

I don't know why you're seeing the error message you describe when you run a later build. Have you considered that the device might need to be restored? It might clear up any handshaking issues leading to a percieved incompatibility.

I have not needed to replace any part of the iPod I have, the iPod I have works just fine, but is only compatible with iTunes version 10.6.3.25.

Just so you know, I asked in order to rule out the possibility that flash memory was the cause of the iPod not being recognised by iTunes. Flash memory installations are not guaranteed to work flawlessly with iTunes.

Sometimes one has to rule things out to ensure that they are not the cause.

Older version of iTunes for Windows won't connect to iTunes store any longer.
