I am looking to upgrade my AMD Radeon HD 6750M which has failed with a GTX 1050M which is very good.
However, I've heard that there are PSU limitations which are not compatible with Pascal Architecture GPU's.
Does a 1050M work on a 2011 21.5 inch iMac?

The PSU limits the 2010-2011 21.5" iMacs to MXM Type-A cards, but even when they do fit you still need to worry about finding a card with MacOS drivers and a VBIOS that will use the internal display (rare).
As for the 1050M: NO! MacOS does not have pascal drivers.
Since Apple never released an official upgrade the easiest (and only official) option is to find a used Apple Radeon HD 6770M.

imacs like laptops do not use normal pci-express module video cards they have custom daughterboards, it's unlikely a person could ever get a daughterboard working if it was not one made for that series.
had the same imac and the gpu recently died, I took out the system memory and the harddisk, the harddisk I put in an usb3 enclosure and connected it to a cheap mac mini 2012 I bought used, the imac will go to the recycling center.
Can somebody explain?
I know, the 1050M is a MXM card.
Actually, there are drivers...
...until Sierra. High Sierra made these drivers incompatible for some reason, so I'm gonna find a 765M and do the upgrade myself.
Does a nVidia geForce GTX 1050M fit on a 2011 21.5 inch iMac?
