The paper referenced is out-of-date. The things described are not present here. It is a new phone, an 11, so the iOS is up-to-date. I did try to perform an analogous procedure for my 11, but no dice. Regarding the gmail ID and password, I don't even get to that point. The re-directs message comes before I get to that point. This is driving me a little crazy, so I would appreciate the help. Maybe I need to return the phone and replace it?
This has been fixed. Two very sharp phone reps diagnosed the perplexing problem and resolved it. I am very grateful for their expertise and help!
