I've done all of these steps and checked that outlook is my default email app, but when I go to hit merge to email I get an error pop of that says "Word was unable to mail your document" followed by a pop up once I hit Ok that says "World could not finish merging these documents or inserting this database". I've been able to do mailings before and this just started happening. HELP!

I had the same problem and ended up updating both to 16.40 and now it's working (but I'm only using the text, no html format). Previously my Word was on 16.40 and Outlook 16.39 (that I downloaded from the Apple store today).
