iPad Pro Magic Keyboard trackpad suddenly stopped working.

My apple magic keyboard trackpad pointer suddenly stopped working.

I had the same problem with my Ipad Pro, all I did was reset my ipad and the mouse started working again

iOS 14.3 fixes the delete key issue in Mail!

However 14.3 does not permanently fix the trackpad problem... for those that have it.

How long should I have the iPad and charger removed for? Ive tried this a few times for around 3 minutes and it hasn’t worked yet.

Nice suggestion. That worked for me.

The workaround always works for me, but the trackpad problem always happens again for me within 1 or 2 days requiring the workaround again.

Right out of the box the trackpad isn’t responding ... I let it sit for a couple of months before I even got to use it. Another piece of Apple product I’ve wasted my money on.

I had this problem too just now. There’s something wrong with the Magic Keyboard as I too lost trackpad operation with the power plugged into the keyboard instead of my 2018 11” iPad Pro. Sounds like a common problem.

Same here. I found that I had to remove the iPad from the keyboard *and* unplug the power supply from the keyboard for the trackpad to come back. Doing just one or the other didn’t work for me. Neither did hard resets.

I just had this problem.

I tried power down power up ipad: no change

I tried unplug/ replug: no change.

I tried unplug /reboot/replug: that worked

I am running iPadOS 14.2 on 2020 iPadPro, with magic keyboard.

I never had this problem with my first Magic Keyboard which is still working without incident.

The newer one I got this month (November 2020) has happened 3 times already.

The reset worked, and it might be related to plugging the USB-C to the charge connector in the hinge instead of the iPad itself, or it might be a quality control issue with more recently manufactured units.

It’s annoying but at least the fix works. Hope a software remedy is successful.

iPad Pro 12.9 (2020) running 14.3, and it just happened after this update, today. Thanks to yr suggestion, unplugging & remounting - this solved the issue.

My concern / and question is - is there an underlying hardware issue and will it be progressively degrading to the point of failure (since we click that thing often) or is it a software bug? I know its a tough question to tackle, but opinions?

Also I am not sure if a visit to Apple Genius is now necessary anymore (since some folks here have commented that it continues to happen even with replaced Magic Keyboard).
