iPad Pro Magic Keyboard trackpad suddenly stopped working.

I had the same problem, 2018 iPad Pro running 13.5.1 with the Magic Keyboard. Removing the both the iPad and the USB-C power cord from the keyboard (i.e. no power going to the Magic Keyboard from any source) seems to reset things enough to get it to start working again. I’ve had to do this twice in the past week, including just now.

I had the same issue with the same solution. One other observation, right before this happened, I noticed that the battery was going down on my iPad even though I had a USB-C plugged into the keyboard (not the iPad). Once I unplugged everything, the mouse came back and the power started going in the right direction.

If the trackpad stops working (but the keyboard works). I unplug the power cable, demount the iPad and then immediately replug the power cable in and then remount the iPad and then the trackpad works again. I haven't had to wait for a while to get it to work. However, so far with 14.3 it seems to work for a day or two or three, and then it stops working, and I have to reset it again.

Is your symptom the same, occasionally the trackpad stops working? Or do you have other symptoms. For example: Does your keyboard continues to work even if the trackpad does not? Or do you have different symptoms?

Same problem here, and disconnecting all power and removing the iPad from the keyboard (as described by u/sailormacsf), also worked for me.

This issue happened after upgrading to 14.2. Removing power then remounting the iPad to the MK worked. Got the trackpad back.

I had the same issue. I removed my 2018 IPad Pro running 14.2 from the Magic Keyboard and turned the Bluetooth for 30 seconds. Then i turned the Bluetooth back on and placed the iPad on the magic keyboard and the issued seemed to be fixed. Granted this has only happened to me once so i don’t know if this is a long term fix. I am not sure what might be causing the trackpad to loose connection while the rest of the IPad Pro Magic Keyboard worked. I connected an external Magic Mouse just to make sure it wasn’t the iPad messing up. Hopefully Apple will take a look at this and fix it with an update.

i had this same issue and unplugging the power cord and removing the iPad from the keyboard worked for me too.

This seems to happen every time I try to clean my trackpad, either with a soft cloth or with a cloth moistened with a gentle cleaner. Removing the iPad Pro and removing the USB-C power cable to de-energize the magic keyboard and then returning the iPad Pro to the dock seems to restore functionality. Very frustrating.

I too have the same problem, typically if I leave the iPad Pro 11 on the magnetic mount for a number of hours it seems to cause the trackpad to stop responding - but the keyboard works as normal. Taking the iPad off the mount and un-connecting the charger cable, and then re-connect the cable and re-mount the iPad, everything works as normal. Given time it will revert to the unresponsive trackpad. Very frustrating - especially considered the high price.

Just happened to me on my iPad Pro 2020 12.9 IPadOS 14.2. I unplugged the usb c adapter from the keyboard and reattached the iPad and the curser returned. Thanks for the thread.

The tip to disconnect the USB C and take the iPad off the keyboard worked fine, but this is still happening with a brand new Magic Keyboard, a brand new IPad Air 4 and iOS 14.2 so a fix needs to done by Apple.

Fortunately if you unplug it and disconnect the iPad from it simultaneously, it is a guaranteed fix. It is still disappointing that this has to be done. Fortunately, also, I have not experienced this issue since last week. I had to forego a Genius Bar appointment, today, because I did not have the means to back up my iPad. My PC for some reason refuses to download iTunes. I am hoping they will just fix this issue with an update, considering it is a software issue and not a hardware issue.

Definitely call Apple. The more they hear of this, the more weighting it gets in resolution. Btw, my issue happened only once. I’m guessing different folks have different levels of severity. Not an expert but I’m guessing it’s a firmware issue
