Using Terminal:
Below Depicts what it would look like, whether logged in or using Recovery Mode.
Screenshot:
The arrow points to where the Serial Number would be. Personal Info is blanked out with the Red Rectangles.

I Can’t Emphasize it Enough:
Call Apple Support and Find Out if its on them.
Apple Phone Support Info:
Perform Send-In Service:
With many Apple Stores currently closed at the moment, all there is for service is send-in service. So, contact Apple, and have them look at it.
For Thought: If needed, write some notes on what particular things they should look at (i.e. about certain things you have tried ), and include the paper of notes in the box.
Mac OS X doesn't do a "clean install." If your intent is to erase and install the most recent operating system, you can command-R restart the Mac, and use Disk Utility to erase the drive, and then Quit Disk utility, and run the installer.
If you want to install the oldest operating system, use command-option-shift-R at startup and do the same.
If neither shortcut works, you likely don't have a 2012 or later Mac.
Your serial number should also be imprinted in small print on the bottom of the case. Use either a magnifying glass or the zoom feature of a smart phone's camera to find that serial number.
DO NOT post the serial number here.
Plug it into this link to figure out the age of your computer:

Find this in Terminal:
To Open Terminal:
Type this Command:
ioreg -l | grep IOPlatformSerialNumber
A simple AppleScript to display your serial number. Copy/paste into Script Editor, click compile, and then run.
display dialog (do shell script "ioreg -l | iconv -f ISO-8859-1 | tr -d '\"' | awk '/IOPlatformSerialNumber/ {print $4}'") with title "Mac Serial Number"
When Apple, or an authorized Apple Service Center does a logic board replacement they typically refresh the logic board with the serial number. If that is not done, at the very minimum they are supposed to write the serial number on the board so it can be flashed in the board. If you still have the box the machine came with, call AppleCare and ask them to set up a case to have your serial number refreshed. Backup your data before sending it back to Apple.
not working bro
