Outlook for Mac Office 365 - hyperlinks in emails not working after latest Catalina Update installed today

Ever since i updated my os to the download the Catalina update this morning, if I get an email in Outlook for Mac from Office 365 and it has a hyperlink in the email - i cannot just simply click on the link to get to the web page. This just happened this morning after updating my OS to Catalina Version 10.15.5 - Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the hyperlinks working again in emails that I receive in Outlook for Mac Office 365?

Agreed. For all intents, CleanMyMac is malware. It sits in the memory resident area of the Mac and is hard to remove. Macpaw and Zeobit software should be removed.

If you see it on your Mac, it could be messing it up in many other ways. And removing it could fix some of your Microsoft and Apple issues.

Sadly the only suggestion that MS had, was to use the preferences reset tool, which clears all your useful parameter settings but does nothing for the hyperlinks. I do wish software makers would test their solutions, before posting them. That would be really useful. Liaison between Apple and MS found wanting yet again. I am amazed Apple's beta testers did not pick this one up, as it only took me seconds this morning to spot that something was wrong. A large proportion of people who use Macs in a business environment, use Outlook for their mail not the rather basic Apple Mail. That must be a quite large user base.

From my discussions with MS this morning, it would appear that most having run the 10.15.5 supplemental update and running Outlook 16.38 are having this issue. So if you aren't, you may not have the above parameters active or else you are very lucky. There are posts all over the internet about this problem. MS say they are working on it but believe it may be an Apple action that is blocking the hyperlinks, in a part of the API they are not allowed into.

I spent two hours with MS today. They removed all MS Office files and had me reinstall. It worked for a little while and after a reboot, the problem came right back. The tech from MS wasn't aware of this problem.

I'm on Catalina 10.15.6 Beta (the problem started with 10.15.5) and I'm on Outlook 365 16.38. Very frustrating since most of my emails contain hyperlinks.

I asked the MS tech representative about removing Office 365, saving my Outlook (using the app deletion facility in Clean my Mac, so that all the service files get removed). He recommended against doing this as I would most likely lose my Outlook messages Database. This is stored at user/library/group containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/Outlook/Outlook 15 Profiles/Username Profile/Data/Messages. These are a series of folders in date order not a monolithic single incremental database file as in the past. They might be difficult to reinstall and get a new version of Office to recognise them. The MS technician felt that all I would be likely to achieve by removing and reinstalling is to clear my caches, where there are far simpler ways to do this.

Sadly this blind shotgun approach of delete and reinstall is too frequently the suggestion when a programming problem arises instead of finding what the real issue is. Something in the 10.15.5 supplemental caused this problem and Apple and Microsoft really do need to liaise and find what it is, then send out a fix (maybe both something from Apple and an update from MS), instead of throwing this back at their customers.

HOT OFF THE PRESS. MS has released this morning, a gargantuan update of the entire Office 365 suite, on the insider Fast Track (to be found in advanced settings on MS Auto-Update App), which has sorted the problem totally. All due credit to MS, who must have been burning the midnight oil to get this update of multiple gigabytes out to us end users. It looks like a complete repair of the entire code of the suite. The moral of the story - test, test, test! The good thing is that all user data and settings are retained.

It is important to get your facts correct. Outlook 16.38 does not have active hyperlinks. 16.39, which was released at 08.37 this morning, does correct the hyperlink problem. It does not cause any problems and runs well on POP, IMAP and Exchange email. The Insider fast track software updates have been signed off by MS they are just available earlier than the regular monthly schedule. I am not sure why you are so against installing software that patently cures the problem. I can only assume it is because you were not the one posting the cure.
