MBP16 Panic: x86 CPU CATERR detected

Brand new MBP16 (2nd day in use ) crashes/restarts periodically. Fresh installation (not from backup).

OS: 10.15.5

Config:

MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019)

2.4 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9

64 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB

Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

I reinstalled from scratch, reset SMC, disabled power nap for both battery and adapter.

And I still have the issue. No peripherals attached.

Your computer was restarted because of a problem

Please share if you have any clue on what's going on.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

After a few days of trying I was able to reproduce the reboot issue on a clear system (right after system reinstallation in initial laptop setup wizard). After that I sent my laptop to Apple service.

It was confirmed to be a hardware problem, they replaced motherboard and touch id.

Yesterday I got the laptop back and it works fine so far. Hopefully it stays that way.

I too just started getting this exact same crash today (line by line identical to yours) after switching to a brand new eGPU enclosure with a Radeon RX 580 card in it. It only seems to happen when I am doing something in the Windows 10 Parallels VM, on the screens connected to the eGPU, but then it happens very frequently. Just some simple window management in Parallels seems to be enough to trigger the panic.

Not sure if it's at all related to Parallels or if that just happens to be the only thing generating enough CPU load to trigger this.

I get this panic message 5-12 times a day. Meanwhile I have done the following:

Clean installation of MacOS 10.15.5

No other software installed except MacOS, so I use only safari and mail for testing

NO USB-devices attached except the original power supply and -cable

SMC reset

NVRAM reset

Still the periodic shutdown appears. I called Apple and they said it must be a hardware issue.

I have the feeling that the MacBook Pro 16' series is a complete disaster. I never had such a faulty and unstable device.
