When I try to use an app I'm told that I can't because mobile data isn't switched on.

Having downloaded an app and a podcast, when I try to use them I'm told that I can't because mobile data isn't switched on. But it is.

It needs to be switched on overall, and also the switches for the individual apps need to be on in Settings/Cellular Data. Also, if you are connected through a VPN that might be a problem.
