Yes, there is. Thunderbolt 2 supports MiniDisplayPort, so you you could use one that says it's Thunderbolt 2 compatible, but I haven't seen one with an HDMI male connector on it. Usually it's an HDMI female connector, and then you use either an HDMI 1.4 cable (for 1080) or an HDMI 2.0 cable( for 4k). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that all recent MacBook Pro's had Thunderbolt 3 and not Thunderbolt 2. The only way to verify which version of Thunderbolt you have would be be to go to the large Apple icon at the top left of your screen, and then go to "About this Mac" which should give you a rough model number.
If you go to everymac.com, there is a search window/feature there. type in that model number and click on "Go" and it'll come up with all the relevant info on that model of MacBook Pro, including what version of Thunderbolt it has
