I have a 2008 IMac that I would like to recover photos off of, time machine has not backed up in 1228 days and when I attempt to email the pictures it asks me for a password I no longer know. I would like to save these pictures because they are of my kids when they were young and I was wondering if anyone knew of an easy way to get the pictures off of the computer.
iMac Line (2012 and Later)
If this iMac is booting, then transfer the files to an external USB drive. If these files are important, then make sure to backup them up as well. I recommend a regular USB hard drive or USB SSD drive and not a USB stick. The quality of USB sticks is very poor and it is possible you could corrupt or lose files. If you use a USB stick then make sure view each file on the new computer.
Another option would be to enable Sharing on the old iMac and connect your other computer to the iMac and transfer them across your home network.
