Macbook duel screen issue

Hi. Im new to the Mac world and I have a MacBook (2014) that I would like to use with 2 monitors. Both monitors are the same make and Im using a Kensington SD3600 dock. the monitors plus into the doc and there is a single usb that goes from the dock to the laptop.

I have got as far as the Macbook desktop appearing on both screen but its duplicating. I have unchecked the mirror screen box but its still mirroring. I have a Mac mini that I use with both screen and that works fine with the desktop extended from screen 1 to screen 2. I have a windows laptop that works fine extending from screen 1 to screen 2 but I just can't get my MacBook to do it. Please help, its driving me mad.

Hi Fluke32,

Which OS are you using? If anything before Catalina, Unplug everything, turn on the laptop, connect the monitor to the laptop. uncheck the mirroring, apply settings. Keep everything connected, reboot. Your monitor should show two screens If not, then instead of the Kensington doc, use an adaptor. Monitors usually don't work on USB, you need an HDMI, VGA or DVI.

Also, you can use only one extra screen on the old Macs. Not two extra i.e. total 3.

Hi Acetrdg

Thank for the reply. It Catalina Im using. It sees the 3 screens in total on the screen arrangement tab but if I can only use 1 extra screen on my 2014 MacBook then that would explain it. Im very new to the Macworld so having been used to windows for years its quite different. Im loving the Macs though.

Thank you for your help and quick reply, its really appreciated.
