Software update issue

Hi every time I try to update the security software on my MacBook Pro (circa. 5 years old now) I get the following message 'The network connection was lost.(-1005)' any advice?

Have you tried either of the following to perform the upgrade:

  • Booting up in Safe Mode?
  • Temporarily connecting your MacBook Pro by Ethernet?
