Epson V600 - Catalina 10.15.5 - after it worked for one day I now get communication error E583-B318

Installed a new scanner with the 64 bit app required by Catalina. Worked fine for 1 day then scanner would shut down and I would get error code E583-B318. I have uninstalled and reinstalled - I have rebooted - tried it with the scanner on first before turning on the computer and the reverse -

beyond frustrated at this point.

Thanks for any help

So, I had this same scenario...same troubleshooting with same failures across the board. Discovered that my issue was a mis-aligned slide scanning tray on the glass. If you are using the transparency feature, and your tray isn't aligned properly, it exhibits all these symptoms. Proper alignment of the transparency adapter on the glass resolved my issue. The scanner apparently freaks out in this condition and reports error E583-B318. Something else for you to check.

The question is whether this is an Epson scanner driver failure, or the Epson Scan 2 utility messing up. Try Apple's Image Capture to see if it is a Scan 2 software issue, or even try the 64-bit VueScan trial to see if it also scans correctly. If VueScan does not scan correctly, then the V600 drivers may be at fault. Note, that VueScan does require working Epson V600 drivers installed before it will support the device.

If no success from the first paragraph, then its an Epson issue, and they can be reached at +1 562-276-4382 from 7 am - 4 pm Pacific Time. You can also communicate with them via an online form.

I'm having the same issue. I get 1 or 2 scans in and I get the same error saying it lost connection. If I unplug the USB, plug it back in and restart the software, I can get another 1 or 2 scans before it gives the same error. This happened both with Image capture and with Epson software.

While I understand VikingOSX suggestion to try Vuescan, that's not an acceptable solution in my opinion since it costs money. The scanner worked fine until the update and now can't maintain a connection. There should either be a fix on the Apple side, or the Epson side, not a 3rd party that costs extra.

I'm having a similar issue as well. My Epson V600 worked great until I upgraded to Catalina 10.15. Now it glitches out and has been producing extremely blurry scans. I've installed, uninstalled and reinstalled both Silverfast and Epson Scan 2 twice with now improvement. I also bought a new USBC cable to see if it would help and it didn't.

To me it almost seems like the scanner does not know where it should be focusing. What's up with this?

I have this problem as well, starting yesterday (8/5/2020). I was scanning film negatives just fine for a couple hours, then all of a sudden I started getting that error E583-B318 message. I have Catalina 10.5.5, a 2020 Macbook Pro, and the V600 is new as of December. I tried shutting everything down, unplugging and re-pluggin all connections, reinstalling all related software, drivers are up to date (including the two that VikingOSX mentioned), and I tried different dongles and USB cables. Nothing works.

Thanks,

Aaron

Upgraded to Catalina, and my v600 performance has slipped.

Have tested multiple scans of the same film, and the quality varies. Scans using 4800 dpi and 6400 dpi are often blurred a bit, but they were fine before the upgrade.

Scans with 3200 dpi are acceptable, until they also lose detail.

Have never seen that in this scanner.

Hope there's a fix coming. I don't believe the problem is the scanner.

This, too...the CPU usage has risen a lot for the Epson. That's also new.

I have the same problem. I was using the scanner for the first time I think after the upgrade to Catalina. At the beginning it was fine, then the machine itself started to make a weird noise, then a few scans were half black, and then it stopped working. I have done everything I've read on this article, instalen the Silverfast and nothing. I have V600 new from December and I am starting to get really mad
