Screen time records apps that aren't open

I have screen time set up on my phone, track across other devices is turned off and yet it still shows more screen time than I'm using on my phone. When I check, it shows Settings is on for hours and so is Instagram. I have Instagram on a 15 minute setting and I close it when I hit my limit. Is there some setting or something I'm missing? All other apps seems to be representative of my usage, it's just these two.

Thanks!

Hey lapresle,

I see that your Screen Time is recording apps that aren't opened and I'd like to help!

Some apps might be running in the background just like these two apps you're seeing under Screen Time report. If the Instagram app settings is enabled under 'Background App Refresh', then it's possible that both your Instagram and Settings apps might be still running in the background.

Try going to Settings > Scroll all the way down until you see the list of your apps and select Instagram > disable 'Background App Refresh'.

If you still see the same report under Screen Time, I suggest that you try force closing these two apps by following the steps from here: How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Also, restart your device to see if it helps: Restart your iPhone

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers!
