Epson 810 on Catalina with Airport Extreme won't scan

Epson Artisan 810 does not give a Scan option in Sys Prefs/Printers when connected USB cable to router Airport Extreme. If I create a printer (local) for it with the USB cable plugged directly into my Mac mini, it correctly shows a Scan option which works properly. In both cases, the Artisan will print. I think everything worked back when Catalina was first released, and I have made no changes to my local network hardware. Running macOS 10.15.5

The embedded firmware on the AirPort routers only supports the print function at the USB port. Other options like scan, copy, maintenance, etc are not supported.

If you need to copy, scan, perform maintenance, etc., you will need to connect the printer directly to your Mac.

A miracle if it worked, since I have the same series of printer and advanced functions have never worked when the printer was connected to the USB port on the AirPort on any operating system that I've used.

Maybe another user can explain the miracle though, since they do occur from time to time.

Just the other day, we had a user claim that his 2009 AirPort provided "ac" wireless signals, when Apple did not introduce "ac" in routers until 2013.
