iOS 13.5.1 screen and calling issues

My iPhone XR was updated with 13.5.1 last night (6/9/2020). Since then, my screen is freezing and I cannot answer calls, scroll, etc. Very frustrating. What can be done to fix this?

Hi!

I just got done on apple support, because I was having so many issues after my phone updated last night. First, make sure your phone is completely backed up, and then try restarting it normally. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then press and hold the Power button until the device restarts. After it restarts, check to see if the issues have improved, and if not, you most likely will have to erase the phone and restart it with your recent backup or as a new device.

Hope this helps!

first try

Force restart

After that the next step would be to restore your device, and setup the device without restoring a backup, to see if the issue is replicated. I would first make sure you have a backup so your data is saved.

Here is a guide for those steps:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

and see how it goes

If it works well restore from backup but be prepared to wipe again without restore from backup.

Any of these problems should be approached as follows

  • backup if you can
  • restore to factory settings as though you were selling it - see

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

  • set it up again with your AppleID with all services like icloud and Siri OFF, and without restore from backup and see how it goes.
  • If no improvement it is more likely to be a hardware fault. send it for repair or replace.

(Updates put stress on the system and can be the last straw for a phone nearing a hardware fail.)

  • If it works well however, restore from backup
  • But if the problems come back repeat the wipe and build up apps manually and slowly and try to identify what spp, service or setting is causing the problem.

General advice avoid automatic updates. Update with a computer if you can and backup first.

this problem has been extremely frustrating! i think, however, that i found a possible solution... i reset all the settings and the network settings. (one does not even have to do a restore, although i did.) then, i changed my passcode (which used to be four digits) to six digits. all is now back to normal. for the first time in three weeks, i don't want to throw my phone against the wall. i hope that this helps.

Ok I tried the hard reset, as a matter of fact I tried this three different times in a 24 hour period this did nothing. I than preformed a phone reset where I believe it cleared the phone than reloaded everything (could be wrong, just not a export) this helped. My phone did not get as hot any more and battery drain was a little better. But still have phone issues. After a day and doing more research on this up grade issue, I did a complete erase of my phone, taking it back to factory setting. At this point (if I understand correctly) the phone was like it was when I first purchased and it showed it had the 13.5.1 upgrade. I than followed directions on phone and reinstalled my backup. Note the last Backup my phone was able to back was the day I installed this stupid up date which was July 1st. What made my reinstall easer was the fact I had my I pad with me And powered up and through directions That popped up on both my I phone and my I pad it helped on some of the reinstall. The down took about 30 min. I did this 26 hours ago now my phone is back to normal and running great. Hope this helps, I am glad to have my phone back in operation.

Within 24 hours of updating to 13.5.1 my phone became so hot I got the “Temperature” warning screen. Upon reboot I had a bright all green screen that began to strobe then constant green. I preformed a hard reset which helped some. 1/4 of the lower part of the screen was unpredictable. Removing the screen protector helped some. Apple diagnosed it as a hardware issue and replaced the screen. Works great now.

I updated to 13.5.1 earlier in the week & I’ve been having a lot of issues with texting &, to a lesser degree, with calls. If I’m not on a WiFi network, my texts will often fail. And even when I am on WiFi, my texts to non-Apple users will almost always fail.

Websites & apps won’t load properly if I’m not connected to WiFi. It seems to be all surrounding some sort of connectivity issue.

When I went into my settings tonight & went to the “About” screen, it gave me a message about some sort of provider update hadn’t been completed yet. So I gave it permission to do it & I don’t see where anything changed. Still having issues with my text messages.
