Missing options in print dialogue

I have a Canon Pixma MX 920 series multifunction device and am missing some options in the print dialogue unter MacOS Mojave. Those options are available under macOS Catalina, however, and only Apple applications seem to be affected:

Pages (Mojave):

Pages (Catalina):

Word (Mojave):

Word (Catalina):

On both operating systems I have installed exactly the same version of the driver software (v16.40.1.0, image file "mcpd-mac-mx920-16_40_1_0-ea21_3.dmg") and configured the printer exactly the same way (type: Canon IJ Network).

For Word and Pages, I not only used the same versions under both OSes, but also the very same program files.

The AirPrint / Bonjour driver is no alternative as it offers less option as the Canon IJ Network driver in general - neither color options nor borderless printing is available.

Creating PDFs and printing them with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC as a workaround is possible but inconvenient.

It is printer manufacturer's responsibility to update the PDE file. But you are missing the point with that question:

First, have you ever heard of pointing fingers? That is what Apple and Canon are doing in this case. Apple says the printer manufacturer is responsible, Canon says the OS or application programmers are responsible. And the user falls by the wayside...

Second, as I have already mentioned, I am using the very same driver on Mojave and Catalina and subsequently the same PDE file. It works under Catalina with all applications but under Mojave it only works with non-Apple applications. So it is most likely not a general problem of the PDE file that causes the issue but a special problem in combination with Apple applications under Mojave.

I am not only a user, but also a system administrator for both Macs and PCs. So I have a little knowledge about both OSes.

Those printing options I was talking about are customized depending on printer model and manufacturer. And those usually come with a so-called PDE file (Printer Dialog Extension), which gets installed alongside the printer driver. For more information see https://developer.apple.com/library/archive/technotes/tn2329/_index.html.

However, I presume that Apple applications under Mojave cannot handle those PDE files or handle them differently then under Catalina.

But that is just an assumption. As I did not want to get too much into technical details and influence any possible answers in that direction I omitted my speculation at first.

In the end, I am interested in a solution, not a technical discussion. ;-)
