Watch sensor burns

On the

on the 12 June 2020 I reported and sent pictures of serious sensor burns on my wrist. Apple Informed me they hadn’t heard of burns from the watch. It was never reported before. They would do an investigation and get back to me in five days. I now see there are numerous complaints from watch sensors causing burns. This watch is unsafe and I plan on following up on this.

i have resorted to using medical Silicone tape on wrist. Mepiform comes in a useful size5x7cm. Not cheap but as long as not on broken skin can be reused many times, keep backing cover to store when watch not in use.

I’m about to right now. I honestly thought it was possibly a chemical reaction from metal, sunscreen and sweat (+ heat) ... but that also still seems weird to me as I’m a personal trainer so really the overall conditions for me aren’t so unusual as I’ve been working all outdoors since May . It for sure concerns me more considering you had the same thing happen but without activity. Thank you so much for responding - I really appreciate it.

It seems to have been happening to various people. The only difference I thought of was my watch updated I think the night before or at most 24 - 48 hours before it happened. No idea if that had anything to do with it. Finally after almost 2 months I’ve been told today I’m closer to a resolution. The advisor is trying to get me a replacement watch authorised and I should hear the outcome in the next couple of days. Whereabouts in the world are you? I’m in the UK

See, i'm the opposite - mine needed an update that day - I had gotten the notification in the morning. I can't believe that it's been taking you that long. I am in Canada. They were super nice on the phone to me - I went from one person to a person above them and now he's speaking with the engineers and will be getting back to me tomorrow. From all of my google searches it seems like the only common consistent variable is that for most people its a series 3. I hope you're able to get yours all sorted. I'll keep you guys posted on what happens with mine.

Update. I spoke to a “supervisor” in the safety department and he was super rude and kept telling me I’m allergic to the materials in the watch. I told him I’ve had it for over a year, I’m not allergic, and this wound is not an allergic reaction. He was very rude and I got nowhere. Clearly my watch is defective or malfunctioning and I believe it should be looked at or replaced. Now my burn is starting to scab and the lump is getting smaller.

That's pretty interesting and quite scary information. From reading through the discussion there seems to be many different skin irritations caused by Apple Watch with varying levels of severity. Mine is rarely painful or itchy so doesn't really effect my quality of life except for the fact its annoying to see it there and now prevents me from wearing any watch on my left wrist.

I live in Ireland so a relatively cold climate here all year round, if we're thinking about environmental factors.

This exact thing is happening to me too. I have a Series 2 that seems to work fine, but burns my skin badly. It does die every single day, I have to charge it every night. I only wear it during the day and am very careful about it not being on my wrist too tight or loose. I also rinse it every time I work out so no sweat stays on it or my skin.

As mentioned in my previous post, I got this lump on my skin while wearing Apple Watch and still have it there today. I did have it on my skin 10 months ago and still do today. I did discontinue use and see my doctor, which led to me getting rid of the watch. Treatments haven't helped so far. Does the all knowing, all powerful Apple Watch User Guide say anything about when nothing seems to get rid of these 'sensitivities'?

Same issue here! I’ve had my watch for a while now, no skin allergy or sensitivity, and my wrist is burnt. I’ve used topical antibiotics to help with the scarring, try not to wear it as much. Shame really+

insulting in hindsight that Apple is doing nothing to solve this other than trot out a rote response about skin allergies. Lemme guess...everyone on this platform all have a skin sensitivity to the same product? duh! ...the watch. There clearly is an issue here - so what’s the deal? For the moderator / support staff reading this, let me ask you: If you were the consumer - as we are here - is this an acceptable approach? Didn’t think so....welcome hearing any ideas or solutions to solve!
