Dual monitor extended desktop

Hello friends!

My understanding is that in order to have dual monitors (in addition to laptop monitor) that each display their own independent screen (no mirroring) - there needs to be two separate HDMI cables connecting the MacbookAir2019 to the monitors. Is that correct? Second, would two USB-C to HDMI cables going directly from the laptop to each monitor suffice? Or does some kind of adapter need to be used?

Thank you!!!!

MacBook Air 13″, 10.15
