There is no Apple TV icon on my Apple TV (little black box) home screen. Why?

Your model doesn’t have it, if it’s a 2nd Gen and it’s not possible to update it where it will.

If it’s a 3rd Gen, it can be updated to get the app.

There is no Apple TV + icon. It will be an Apple TV icon. Apple TV+ is found within that.
