multiplex midi in - doesn't seem possible

I have a MIDI wind controller. It sends its breath values on CC2. I want to send those values to a few parameters of a hardware synth, on a few different CC channels: right now specifically to CC23 and CC12. It's really easy and fun to get Mainstage to transform CC2 to CC23, but it doesn't seem possible to get it to send to both CC23 and CC12. That's a total bummer! I was just starting to fall in love with Mainstage! Obviously still cool, but now I'm going to have to explore writing a script to do this myself.

Am I incorrect though? Is there a way to take a CC-in from a controller and send it out to two different CC channels?

Hey there. I’ve been using a few different wind controllers with MainStage for 13-14 years. It’s nice to see another of us on here!

I haven’t tried this but you could add multiple MIDI Modifier plugins to your channel strip, with each one reassigning CC02 to a different CC. With one of these plugins, make sure you enable the “Thru” function so that CC02 actually gets through to the synth.

FYI: it’s not immediately obvious that you can insert multiple MIDI plugins into a strip i.e. there are multiple FX plugin “slots” in each strip but not for MIDI plugins. However, if you move the cursor below an existing MIDI plugin, you’ll see a green line appear beneath that plugin...click on this to insert another MIDI plugin, and so on.

You’ll have to do this for each patch. I’d just copy and paste patches and then change the MIDI program change numbers and any other parameters specific to each patch.
