mac mini 2012 connect to minidisplay port of HP monitor

Hi

I bought a HPz27 monitor that has multiple inputs (displayport, minidisplayport, USB-c). I have a mac mini 2012 with thunderbolt. I connected a thunderbolt cable to the mini-display port input but the monitor did not register any input.

I also have a MacBook 2013 with thunderbolt - same thing.

Do I need a minidisplay-minidisplay cable to connect the 2 computers to the monitor? It seems apple does not have such a cable but there are some after market ones?

A Thunderbolt cable (lightning bolt icons on the plugs) won't work for Mini DisplayPort, even though the plugs fit. You need a Mini DisplayPort cable, such as:

Hi

Its a HP Z27 4K UHD monitor - I realize with Mac Mini and MacBook Air will not get full resolution - thats Ok for now

Attached are screen shots from manual and mac mini

I am connecting the thunderbolt port on mac to mini-display port on HP using an apple thunderbolt male - male cable.

Monitor does not seem to register input

I am guessing I need a minidisplay port cable with either a minidisplay port/displayport/ or even maybe USB-C or USB (if those exist) - and what would be the best option?

Hi

i got a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable.

when I hook up the Mac mini I get a maximum resolution of 1920 when technically I should be able to get at least 2560 - when using alt/option let it is not even offered as a choice

When I hook up my MacBook Air mid 2013 I get the same maximum resolution whereas this computer should also support resolution of the 2560

the monitor should go up to 4K

what is strange I can select 3840 on the mac mini and it seems to work- but the scale is way to small

so I am wondering how can I get 2560 using both these computers o. This monitor ( the specs of the cable and minivans computer all support this)
