Motherboard Repair

I'd like to share the details of an incident that extremely disappointed me:

I have an iPhone XS that was gifted to me by my brother on my Birthday. This was purchased in Ohio, USA.

Currently, I'm in Jaipur, India location. My device stopped getting charged in April end (around 27th April 2020). I reached out to Apple support on chat to see if they can help me get it fixed. She asked me to follow certain steps to restart the device but nothing worked. I shared a few pictures of what I was getting when it was changing. The transcripts must be saved with the support team. They advised me to take it to a service center once the service center is opened.

After the lockdown was relaxed, I got a chance to visit the Imagine Authorised service center in Jaipur (Tresor Systems PVT Ltd.). The Agent collected the device from me to take it inside the service room for some diagnosis and suddenly the charging cable sign was no longer visible. He mentioned since the charging sign is not visible the phone is non-reparable and I will have to bear 58,000 INR to get this device replaced. They mentioned that somehow the motherboard is damaged and they can't do anything about it. My brother paid around 1000 USD 1 year 7 months back while purchasing it and how can Apple Service Center expect us to pay 759.52 USD to get it replaced? It is considered as a very expensive gift in India, so I was already extra cautious while using it. There was no physical damage and I never used it carelessly. It's unbelievable that rhe motherboard of such an expensive device stops working in less than 2 years. Can anyone please suggest how can I get it fixed/repaired with minimal charges?

That device can only be serviced or replaced in the US

In the US, the out of warranty replacement cost for that phone is $549 + applicable taxes.

You will have to take it to the US or send it to someone you know there to have them take it for replacement. Apple will not accept an international shipment.

The bottom line is it is out of warranty, so no, free repairs or replacement are off the table. As with all things, some will fail for unknown reasons, while most will not. Nothing designed and made by humans is 100% infallible 100% of the time. When you make millions of anything, some will fail early, some will fail late, many will never fail.

That is precisely why companies offer only term limited warranties, and only offer extended warranties for a fee. Any electronic device can fail at any time for thousands of reasons. Most don’t but some do. It’s an inescapable fact of man made consumer electronic devices.

You can argue it shouldn’t have happened al you want. The reality is it did happen, and it happened after the warranty had expired.
