Are LPX 10.5 projects not backwards compatible?

Hi guys, I recently upgraded to Catalina, I have sent my logic 10.5 project folder to a friend to work on but he cannot open it in his Logic Pro X El Capitan? This wasnt a problem before i upgraded to 10.5. Are 10.5 projects not backwards compatible? Is there a work around for this? He can access all files with the project folder EXCEPT the Logic project file itself.

Many thanks in advance

Generally Logic projects are only limited in backwards compatibility: I can open 10.5.x projects in 10.4.4 with the warning that "some things" may not work. But the El Capitan version of Logic is two versions behind (10.3.x, so I am not surprised. Your friend should also upgrade - after all, both the OS and Logic are free to upgrade.

Or you should downgrade to keep thing compatible.
